SOUTHERN AFRICAN VETERAN & VINTAGE ASSOCIATION
LEARN MORE ABOUT US
Formed in 1968 The Southern African Veteran and Vintage Association (SAVVA) is the Association of Veteran and Vintage Clubs in Southern Africa of which there are forty. SAVVA is affiliated to Motorsport South Africa (MSA) the National controlling body for all motorsport in South Africa. MSA in turn is affiliated to the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) the world motorsport controlling body (FIM). SAVVA is the South African representative of the Federation Internationale des Vehicules Anciens (FIVA) the International Historic Vehicle Organisation. (IHVO)
Thus, SAVVA when dealing with Government Departments, Councils and other official bodies, speaks with the combined voice of all our clubs and all their members, with their authority. It operates through a Council that is elected annually consisting of a Chairman, Vice Chairman and a Councillor with an alternative representing each club. Portfolio Holders are elected to look after the business requirements of the SAVVA. These are Treasurer, Dating of Vehicles and Motorcycles, Sponsorship, Motorsport, Insurance and Trophies.
WHAT WE ARE ABOUT
The objects of the Association are to promote and improve co-operation between the various clubs and organisations in Southern Africa concerned with the preservation, restoration and use of all vehicles built before 1997. Also to stimulate an interest in all aspects of the activities of the clubs and to publish, print and circulate literature in furtherance of these activities. See the SAVVA constitution here.
HOW VEHICLES ARE CATEGORISED
Vehicles are categorised into the following groups (hover over an image for more information):
DATING OF VEHICLES
A uniform system of Dating vehicles and motorcycles is followed which ensures a true record of the authenticity of the vehicle. A standard Application Form, Certificate and Plaque is used by all clubs. Once dated all clubs will accept the date of the vehicle without question. Should information come to hand subsequently that makes the dating more accurate the Certificate and Plaque will be corrected. Owners of old vehicles are encouraged to have their vehicles dated as this proves the authenticity and can be used for licensing and insurance purposes.
All clubs have reciprocity with each other. Members are encouraged to visit other clubs when in the area and are welcome to participate in events organized by them. It is recommended to wear your name badges when attending all other clubs events.
Club membership is open to any person who shares an interest in the Objects of the Association and should contact the Club nearest to them. A full list of Clubs and contacts appear herein.
